Borepatch has the whole story. Short version: a blogger who goes by the handle of TJIC made what law enforcement is calling a threatening statement against members of congress, and now he’s being investigated by the local authorities. Worse, his blog has been shut down for unknown reasons, and being a resident of Massachusetts, his Firearm Owners ID, which is required for him to own firearms in that state, has been revoked. He has not been charged with any crime, but the police are investigating his “suitability” (their words, via the media) to have a firearms license.
How disturbing is that? You make statements that offend Big Brother, and suddenly you’re not suitable to own firearms. This is not only an assault on the Second Amendment, but the First Amendment as well. If Law Enforcement also forced TJIC to shut down his blog (it is unclear at this time whether he took it down voluntarily or it was forcibly shut down), that makes the situation even worse.
No. I say again, no. This is nothing short of a gross violation of two of our most sacred rights. This cannot stand.
Ben Franklin once said “We must all hang together, or else we well all hang separately.” So, with that in mind, I give you these words:
“God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion.
The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is
wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts
they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions,
it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. …
And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not
warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of
resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as
to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost
in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from
time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
It is its natural manure.”
Violent and threatening words against our government if there ever were any.
Here I am, Big Brother. Come and get me!
